Rare but serious: toxin spread causing muscle weakness, trouble swallowing or breathing — seek emergency care
Do not use if
Allergic to botulinum toxin
Infection at injection site
Certain neuromuscular disorders (e.g., myasthenia gravis)
Pregnancy or breastfeeding — discuss with provider
Procedure & recovery
Time: about 10–30 minutes; topical numbing or ice may be used
Onset: 2–5 days; full effect ≈2 weeks
Duration: usually 3–4 months (varies)
Aftercare: don’t rub treated areas for 24 hours; remain upright for 4 hours; avoid heavy exercise and alcohol for 24 hours
